Laboratory and
Inspection Services
|
The
Thompson & Lichtner Co., Inc. staff of construction inspectors is available to provide
services in field inspection of piles, soils, cast-in-place concrete, precast concrete,
structural steel, fireproofing, masonry, curtainwalls,
window systems, roofing and other elements of new
constructions. Our inspectors also provide inspection of
repairs of deficient
conditions in existing construction.

The
Thompson & Lichtner Co., Inc.'s laboratory is staffed and equipped to provide physical and chemical testing of
most construction materials, including concrete, cement, lime, gypsum,
aggregates, soils, masonry, bituminous materials, roofing materials,
weatherproofing materials, steel, plaster, pipe, apint, and timber. We also
provide a wide range of specialized and related analytical and testing services,
both as an independent service and in support of our engineering and
weatherproofing investigations. |
Laboratory Facilities
|
The
Thompson & Lichtner Co., Inc. Laboratory is located in a
12,000 sq. ft. facility in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and is certified
by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Building Code Commission as Concrete
Testing Laboratory Number 001. The facility is examined every 2 1/2 years
by the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory of the National Institute of
Standards and Technology (formerly the National Bureau of Standards). |

Our laboratory provides a wide range
of routine and specialized services for the Quality control of construction
materials, utilizing test specification of ASTM, ANSI, Federal and other
national standard setting organizations. Our staff also works with our clients
to design special test apparatuses and procedures for specialized testing and
measurement requirements. |

Our laboratory is equipped with a Tinius
Olsen Universal Testing Machine which performs tension and bending tests to
400,000 lbs. and has a soil test capacity of 250,000 lbs. Static pressure
test chambers and equipment for testing windows and curtainwalls for
resistance to air infiltration, water penetration, and structural
performance are also included at our facility, along with hydraulic jacks,
micrometer dials, and other equipment for load tests of structures,
structural units, piles and soils. |

We also
have complete equipment for standard and special physical and chemical
tests of cement, lime, gypsum, concrete, brick, stone, steel, bituminous
materials, plaster, aggregates, and timber. In addition, we have
Krautkramer ultrasonic test equipment for structural steel inspection,
James pachometers for locating steel embedded in concrete and masonry
construction, and a BLH Model 120C strain indicator and Model 225
switching and balancing unit. |

The Thompson & Lichtner
Co., Inc. Laboratory has been recognized by the American Society for
Testing and Materials and the American Concrete Institute for its
membership and contributions to both organizations for over sixty years. |
