The Tinius Olsen Universal Testing Machine
At Thompson & Lichtner it's known simply as "The Big Machine". More formally, it's the Tinius Olsen Universal Testing Machine and its performance numbers are startling:

"It's unique and beautiful," Ara Shrestinian, Vice President, Laboratory Testing and Inspection Services, said. "Because of its size and mass, it can do things no other machine can do." In compression tests, it has tested concrete masonry units, masonry prisms, wood columns and test frames. Tensile tests include reinforcing steel bars, bolts, and steel cables. Because of its accuracy, the Tinius Olsen Universal has even been used to test human bones. |
